The people who lived there may not have survived otherwise, most history buffs probably haven’t heard of it.

During the second world war the democratically elected Nazi state revoked citizenship status for the Jewish people under its control. Without a state, facing horrible oppression and other states around the planet requiring a visa issued from your state, these people had very limited options. Fortunately some were able to find refuge in Shanghai where no visa was required. Later under Axis control the invading army held off the Nazi desires for this stateless group.

The UN wishes to end statelessness meanwhile others desire to end the state. Maybe ending visas instead could lead to a better world.

What might happen if there were a square mile reserved for stateless people near you?
